Bradley Steers Double Champion Honors
at Houston and San Antonio Shows
Khaki and Bradley 3 Ranch Steers Do It Again
In a feat not ever accomplished before, steers bred by Bradley 3 Ranch have been named Champion Commercial Steers at both the 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Jr. Commercial Steer Contest and the 2010 San Antonio Jr. Livestock Jr. Commercial Steer Show. No breeder had ever bred the champion pen at both competitions. Both pens were owned and fed by Khaki Scrivner of Turkey, TX.
The steers are graded on feed conversion and average daily gain, are ultrasounded, and graded for yield and quality grades. Contestants also complete an comprehensive record book with all the expenses they incur during the feeding period, take an extensive test over all aspects of the beef industry, and present a speech relevant to the cattle industry and their project. The official scoring system for the contest is based on scores on a quiz, oral interview, record book, steer grade, cost per pound of gain, average daily gain, and feed conversion.
At the 2011 Houston contest, Scrivner was awarded a 2011 Ford truck that was donated by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and a $1,000 cash award.
"We are extremely proud of Khaki and her family. Their hard work and feeding ability certainly complimented the steers' ability to gain and hit industry targets," said Minnie Lou Bradley. James Henderson and Mary Lou Bradley added, "We owned a meat packing plant for 20 years and our ranch has run Angus cattle for over 50 years. The performance of these steers is a testament to our long term focus on raising cattle that perform for all segments of the industry."
Khaki is the daughter of Curtis and Ruth Ann Scrivner of Turkey. She plans to attend Texas Tech University and major in agricultural communications.
